As the evenings grow longer, we're delighted to share the latest updates from Smile Plastics, designed to bring a little brightness to your day.
First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who shared their feedback with us – we truly appreciate your time and insights. We're excited to let you know that we've already begun to put your ideas into action. This includes the launch of our new Resources Hub and a tailored Build Your Own Sample Set service, both of which you'll find more details about below.
You can also catch Smile Plastics in the wild next month and beyond – keep reading for all the latest.
As always, we're grateful for your continued support, and we wish you an inspiring and productive season ahead.
Underpinned by our ethos to reduce waste wherever possible – and reuse it wherever it's not – now we offer a Build Your Own Sample Set service.
This bespoke approach allows you to curate your own personalised samples box by selecting four samples from our diverse range of 19 100% recycled/ recyclable materials, each chosen to complement your unique aesthetic and functional requirements – thus ensuring you only receive the materials you want.
Whether you’re seeking bold painterly patterns, earthy neutrals, or monochrome solutions, our collections have been meticulously designed to inspire, evoking a rich recycling journey. Our team will hand-pick, pack, and ship your selection within just 3 working days.
Access our new Resources Hub
We realise that, as designers, there’s so much to consider when working on a project, from Building Regulations to sustainability credentials to EDI. For this reason, we’ve consolidated all our useful resource documents into one handy area of our website.
Here, you can gather inspiration via our various lookbooks, seek technical support through EPDs for PET and HIPS, ascertain fire ratings, explore our fabrication guidelines, and learn about our buy-back scheme. At every stage, we’re here to support you.
Design Council’s Design for Planet Festival, Manchester – 6 November 2024
In keeping with our dedication to reuse, we’re giving a new lease of life to the reception desk and poseur tables by Will Atkins of MAKE RELIEF, crafted from our materials and showcased at last month’s Material Matters Fair. Prior to that, they were featured at Future Icons Selects during London Craft Week.
The fourth edition of the Design for Planet Festival – organised by the Design Council – explores the theme of Planet Positive Business. This year, it’s taking place in Manchester, with an inspiring line-up of thought leaders, including Minnie Moll, Chief Executive of Design Council, and Patrick Grant, Director of Community Clothing. We're thrilled to once again support this event as material partners.
The Regenerative Business Summit, London – 14 November 2024
The Regenerative Business Summit unites senior business leaders and sustainability experts to explore how we can build a more resilient economy that restores nature and enhances social wellbeing.
We’re thrilled to share that our founding director, Rosalie McMillan, will be speaking at an interactive session on 14th November at the WWT London Wetlands Centre. She’ll be discussing "How to integrate nature-based innovation into supply chains," offering insights on forging a more sustainable future.
World Design Congress, London – 9 & 10 September 2025
You may have seen the exciting news that London will host the World Design Congress next year for the first time since 1969. This global event, organised by the Design Council with support from the Mayor of London, Greater London Authority, UKRI, and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, will take place at the iconic Brutalist Barbican.
The theme, Design for Planet, will focus on circularity, with the event serving as a "catalyst for change," as Minnie Moll, chief executive of the Design Council, shared with the Financial Times this week. We’re incredibly honoured and excited to announce that we'll be material partners for the event – so stay tuned for more updates coming soon.
We hope you have a wonderful Autumn, and appreciate your ongoing support.
