Grey MistThe Capsule Cafe: Encapsulating Sustainable Principles
A Creative Culinary Space
Architecture and interior design studio Atelier Réalité were tasked with transforming an uncharacteristic commercial space into a place where specialty coffee and unique food could converge. The cafe, located in the picturesque fishing village of Ericeira, Portugal, now serves as a base for pop-up chefs and dining experiences.
The Concept
The overarching concept for The Capsule Cafe was to craft an environment that fosters an informal and relaxed ambiance, seamlessly blending the charm of a classic diner with the refinement of fine dining and the allure of specialty coffee. This vision was brought to life by paying close attention to details; textures, materials, carefully selected furniture, and captivating lighting.
Incorporating sustainable principles into their design, Atelier Réalité decided to adorn the cafe in Smile Plastics' 100% recycled and recyclable panels, tying in their carefully considered colour scheme with Grey Mist.
The Design
Inspiration for the design of The Capsule Cafe was drawn from the world just beyond its doors. The enchanting blue and white hues of the nearby building facades and the tranquil beauty of the sea and sky served as the primary influences for the cafe's chromatic palette.
Subtle touches of soft grey were artfully integrated throughout the space, unifying the colour scheme. From the flooring to the walls, to the striking Grey Mist counter and inviting tabletops and stools, every component was thoughtfully curated. The end result is a softly muted dreamscape where each element has been considered to create an inviting atmosphere.
